A BRITISH Indian made history last Monday (11) after reciting verses from the Bhagavad Gita at the House of Lords for the first time to an audience of community leaders from a range of religious backgrounds.
Hosted by Lord Dolar Popat and Lord Jitesh Gadhia, the event celebrated Dhruv Chhatralia’s 150th recital of the 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the Mahabharata, in London over the past six years.
Chhatralia said: “Today is a historic day and one that will be remembered forever.”
He gave a recital of the commentary of verses 1 to 28 of the first chapter of the Bhagavad Gita.
“Our historic achievement is a credit to the system of education of the Bhagavad Gita we have established, which has made people feel richer within and is inspired to understand spirituality in its correct universal perspective, without any religious or sectarian boundaries,” Chhatralia added.
The evening included the recognition of 27 teachers from the spiritual organisation, Shyam, completing the recital to more than 340,000 students in 161 countries in a two-year period.
