E-GUIDE

My Pod with InderPaul Sandhu

By: PrajaktaMohite

UK-BASED InderPaul Sandhu dropped an interesting EP earlier this year. He recently released the single Money Aint A Thing and will be putting out his latest track Deep next. Eastern Eye got the rapper and singer to select 10 songs he loves.

Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha from Anpadh : This Lata Mangeshkar classic reminds me of when I was little sitting in the kitchen listening to my mum sing while she cooked. My mum rarely sings, but when this song plays it’s a guarantee. She’s got an amazing voice.

The Becoming by Icie: As soon as I heard this track it was stuck on repeat for two weeks. The way Icie articulates the plight and transition of a boy to a man is something I haven’t heard in any song. It deeply resonated with me.

I Am Not by InderPaul Sandhu: I’m still in the process of learning to become a fan of my own art. This song from my EP makes it to my top 10 because it is the epitome of me stepping out of my comfort zone and speaking out against voices in my head saying I’m not good.

Tera Mera Pyaar by Kumar Sanu: We have all had our first crush or love interest. I happened to find mine around the same time I was introduced to this song. You never forget your first crush, so I’m kinda stuck with this song for life.

Walking Shoes by Mali Music: This song is basically my life right now. In fact, if you were to ask me how life was, I would hand my phone over to you whilst it plays and do some sort of makeshift music video in front of you.

4am Showers by InderPaul Sandhu: Besides my single Money Aint A Thing, this is a song of mine I can actually sit down and listen to without feeling weird. I haven’t even released it yet but often find myself humming it. I plan to drop it in April.

Best Friend by Brandy: This reminds me of my sister, who is one of the realest people in my life. She supports me and even though she corrects me when I’m wrong, it’s like I can’t do wrong in her eyes. She’s always rooting for me and I’d be lost without her. Watch her get gassed now.

All Black by Big L: After hearing Big L on this track, I couldn’t help but write bars and wanna do rap like his flow and phenomenal wordplay. I learned a lot just by listening to him. There was a time when listening to this track was like sitting in a school lesson.

Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix: I loved the fusion of elements from the blues meeting the total genius of rock’n’roll. Every time I hear it, from the instrumental to the vocals, ideas just begin to flow. I will definitely be messing around with this kind of sound at some point.

Cheek To Cheek by Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong: God’s greatest creations would have to be women and music. And jazz must be God’s personal favourite genre because it’s so cool. When you have a jazz song about dancing with your woman, you have just marinated, cooked and served the two greatest things ever.
