Vidya Balan walks out of Meena Kumari biopic

Reportedly, Vidya Balan who was supposedly to portray the role of Meena Kumari in the biopic directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia will not be casted in the movie anymore. As per the reports, Vidya’s family is unhappy with Vidya starring in the film, hence, the actress has chosen to back out of the film.

Speaking to a leading Indian daily, she confirmed the news by stating,  “No, I’m not doing the Meena Kumari-biopic anymore. It didn’t quite work out. I love Meena Kumari. If I had a girl crush on somebody, it would be her. If she was alive, I’d probably land up to see her all the time. I am that fascinated by her. I always wanted to play her.”

Earlier, buzz was that Kangana Ranaut would be playing the par of Meena Kumari I the biopic, however, her tight shooting schedules led the makers of the film to pass the role to Vidya Balan.

Citing the reasons to walk out from the film, Vidya said, “The script has to do justice. It can’t just be a sensational account of her life, even if she is not around. It has to present different episodes of her life and not just the ones that will grab eyeballs. So, I decided not to do it.”

During the launch of Gulshan Kumar Film & Television Institute of India (GKFTII) in Noida , Vidya Balan was present along with singer Tulsi Kumar, wherein she spoke about the importance of staying fearless and shameless for an actor.

“It is very important for an actor to be shameless, should have no apprehensions, fearless and be ‘bindass’,” said Vidya.

Talking about her upcoming film Tumhari Sulu, Vidya expressed her happiness on being a part of the film, she said, “People are saying that it is a slice of life film and tells story of a middle class family… Sulu is a very energetic woman who wants to try everything once. After watching the film, people will leave the theatre with a smile,” she said.

Adding further, she mentioned about her not being worried over the film’s box office numbers, Vidya said, “If a film is successful in winning hearts then it is a hit, and if the producers get back their money and it earns some profit then it is a super hit.”

Vidya further sent out a message for people who want to be a part of showbiz, she said,   “There’s no one way to be successful. You have to find your own path to success. And self-confidence is the biggest qualification for success in any field.”

Tumhari Sulu releases on November 17.
