Salman Khan is one of the biggest superstars of Indian cinema. He has given us innumerable blockbusters films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun!, Wanted, Dabangg, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan, to name just a few. However, there is a long list of films which he rejected for one reason or the other. Had he been a part of those amazing movies, his journey to superstardom would have been much easier. Here we list down some blockbuster films turned down by Salman Khan.
Baazigar
Yes, the Abbas-Mustan directorial Baazigar was first offered to Salman Khan, but the actor turned down the offer as he did not want to do a negative character at that time in his career. Salman’s loss turned out to be Shah Rukh Khan’s gain and the film established SRK as one of the leading men of Indian cinema.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
One of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge made Shah Rukh Khan the superstar that he is today, but the original choice to play the iconic character of Raj was Salman Khan. However, Khan rejected the film, Shah Rukh Khan accepted it and the rest is history.
Josh
Also starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, whom Salman was dating at that time, Josh was first offered to Salman Khan. However, he rejected the movie for the obvious reasons. The superstar did not want to play brother to the girl he was dating in real life. Makes sense!
Kal Ho Na Ho
Nikhil Advani wanted Salman Khan in his directorial debut to play the role of Sameer, which was ultimately played by Saif Ali Khan. The film, which starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, turned out to be a blockbuster at the ticket window and helped Saif Ali Khan immensely in his career. Dabangg Khan turned down this film, because which Bollywood superstar plays the second fiddle to another superstar?
Chak De! India
It would have been so refreshing for the audience to see Salman Khan coaching Indian Women’s National Hockey team, but the actor just did not find the script appealing enough to give it his nod. The movie then went to Shah Rukh Khan and earned him Filmfare’s Best Actor trophy. Chak De! India was selected as Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at 55th National Film Awards.
Ghajini
Aamir Khan was always a superstar, but Ghajini took his superstardom to another level. But you will be surprised to know that Salman Khan, not Mr Perfectionist was the first choice to play Sanjay Singhania, a man suffering from short-term memory loss. We are sure that Salman would have nailed the character.
