Ranbir Kapoor to stop doing romantic comedy films?

By: DhrithiGulvadi

After giving series of flop romantic comedy films, Ranbir Kapoor has now decided to stay away from romantic comedies. Ranbir Kapoor’s films have not been doing well at the box office for some time. The film Jagga Jasoos which had Ranbir Kapoor and his ex girlfriend had failed to create any impact on the audience, thereby losing out at the box office. Moreover, his other films like Tamasha, Bombay Velvet and Roy too have fared poorly at the box office. Ranbir is currently shooting for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic and Ayan Mukerji’s directorial Brahmastra which also stars Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles.

A source told a leading Indian daily about the development by stating, “The failure of Jagga Jasoos has impacted Ranbir a lot.He understands that he needs to do a variety of characters now, before people stop offering him such roles.  He’s still a big star and has a strong box office appeal, apart from having brand value among corporates. The rushes of Rajkumar Hirani’s Dutt biopic are superb, and Ranbir now realizes that he needs to change his route quickly.”

Talking about his films crashing at the box office, Ranbir Kapoor told in an interview to a leading Indian daily, “To be honest, Besharam opened to Rs 21 crore on Day 1. So, we count that out. And even Roy, for whatever it’s worth, opened to Rs 11 crore. But yes, Bombay Velvet did not open well at all. And I do take blame for that. But as I said, I had no control over it. Bombay Velvet was a film I loved on paper; it was a film that I would stand by. But there is no formula. I don’t know what’s gonna work, or not.”
